Claw clip styles for your face shape: where to place it
By WinkCasa Team · 2 min read
The short answer: place a claw clip higher on the crown to add height to a round or short-looking face, lower and softer to soften a square jaw, and slightly off-centre to balance a heart-shaped or long face. These are general styling tips, so adjust until it feels right.

Claw clip placement by face shape
Round face
Clip your hair high on the crown for height. A little hair left loose at the front frames the face and lengthens the look.
Oval face
Any placement works. Try a classic twist at the nape or a half-up clip at the crown.
Square face
A softer, lower twist with loose strands around the jaw helps soften angles.
Heart-shaped face
A side-set clip or a low twist adds balance near the jaw. Avoid a very tight, high style that emphasises the forehead.
Long face
A mid-height twist or a clip at the sides adds width. Avoid piling height on top.
Choosing a clip size
Thick or long hair: large claw clip
Fine or medium hair: medium clip, so it holds without slipping
Half-up styles: small to medium clip or a bow clip
Easy claw clip ideas
Classic twist: twist your hair upward and clip it at the back
Half-up: gather the top section and clip at the crown
Low bun twist: fold the twist low at the nape for a soft, formal look
